"Don't let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity or your curiosity."
Erin Savage,
artist & owner
I am a self taught painter who has been painting since 2016. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, I always had a passion for art, drawing, writing, and pretty much doing anything creative. When my father came closer to the end of his battle with ALS, I rekindled that passion for drawing and sketching. After he passed in November of 2016, I realized the flame for creating was still lit. I decided to start testing out different mediums. Finally, at the end of 2016 I bought canvases and acrylic paint and started my journey. At first I just thought of my art as a hobby and a source of relaxation, but the more I painted the more people told me how much they enjoyed it. Which lead me to create The Art of a Savage.
I admire many different bodies of art past and present, but two people from my generation I admire are Suetsai and Whitney Austin. When it comes to inspiration I try to create what is in my mind; so when I am in a creative zone I try to stay away from looking at others artists’ work. I want my paintings to be completely original. I do not want to involuntarily transfer someone else’s ideas into my work. Although I am inspired by different cultures and cultural beliefs, nature, people and bright colors.
My goal for The Art of a Savage is to create conversational bodies of art, be an inspiration as others have inspired me. Encourage people to live out loud and unapologetically.
